The hotel was booked out, and we were upgraded to the John Flagstaff Suite. At no expense to us. The breakfasts were very good, with a great selection for all tastes. Would recommend to all. Great staff, great atmosphere, great age -over 600years old.

We were unable to control the room temp, so it's was a bit hot. And due the age of the Hotel, the rooms didn't filter noises from other rooms.

Location, and a free car park.

I was expecting ye olde pub, but it's more of a hotel that used to be a pub. Breakfast was budget hotel quality, rather than B+B quality.

An all round nice experience, a short walk to the city, comfortable bar and lounge rooms

Found the combination locks on the entrances a bit of a pain

location, friendly very helpful staff, good breakfast meal, safe easily accessible car parking facilties close to hotel room and town.

decoration starting to look very tired, room very hot lucky to obtain a fan.Possible aircon facility in future remodelling in the annexe where we stayed.

  • Group of friends

It was a nice cozy hotel and the location was ideal. The staff accommodated us in changing rooms. The front desk staff was also very helpful in providing information and booking a taxi for us. I would recommend the hotel but only in cooler temperatures

The first room we were assigned was on the third floor and it was extremely hot with very little air entering through the small opening in the windows. It also had not been dusted properly i.e thick dust on the lamps. Fortunately the staff accommodated us in moving to a first floor room which was nicely cool. We also did not like having to carry our luggage up and down over three flights of stairs.

Location near to sites and shops and Christchurch University Easy going friendly atmosphere Free secure parking Comfy beds Olde world charm Good choice for breakfast.

Decor a little faded in room Breakfast rather busy when hotel was full so some guests had quite a wait to be seated .

  • Older travelers

All staff extremely friendly and helpful. Spacious room, very quiet despite being in city. Excellent breakfast. Hotel in brilliant location for city centre.

Had to wait for breakfast on one of our mornings as restaurant was full. This wasn't a problem as we weren't in a hurry and could read newspapers in the bar while waiting. However, it could be a problem if time mattered.

This is a really historic building in a really historic city. The hotel is very convenient to the historic downtown.

Our room in the attic of the annex had limited windows and ventilation.

Location is absolutely great for Canterbury's city centre and the cathedral

The beds tend to move when you prop a pillow against the headboard and lean on it. The TVs are the old CRT lumps, not flat screens and are positioned on a somewhat low TV stands

Very convenient location by Westgate and the heart of the city. Easy walking distance to Canterbury West station. Friendly and helpful staff. Warm and cosy - despite the sub-zero temperatures outside day and night. Good bathroom set-up and plenty of hot water. Plenty of cupboard and drawer space.Tea-making facilities in bedroom, with ample supplies. Generous breakfast included in price. Effective free wi-fi. Trouser-press and traditional iron/ironing board in bedroom. Great value price via this website. When I left my suitcase with reception for safe-keeping until the afternoon, after checking out in the morning, I was given a numbered ticket to ensure the security of my luggage, which was then locked away - reassuring! I would stay here again if visiting this city.

There was nothing I didn't like really, though a remote control for the tv would have been welcome. However, the set was an analogue-only one, so no doubt they'll be replacing that soon, ready for the digital switch-over.

We've stayed at the Falstaff a number of times, and nothing can beat the location and the price combined. It's a lovely 14th(15th) century coachhouse with character

Breakfast staff need to keep better track of who comes in when, as 3 couples who followed us in had their orders taken before us. Also, although the food was quite good, and I wouldn't want a buffet with food getting dry under heat lamps, I'm wondering if its necessary to do each order completely individually (i.e can't they coordinate more than 2 people's breakfasts at the same time...? it was quite a wait for the food following those other 3 couples...)

close to town centre, good car parking facility, good english breakfast, value for money, service at reception was good.

service at breakfast was very poor

Housekeeping staff were firnedly and flexible about room-cleaning time. Good wifi

Limited TV. Room rather strangely laid out.

Location excellent - staff welcoming - accomodation brill

Pleasant & helpful staff, great location for walking to places of interest like main street & church. Staff advised us of a great eating place & the bed was soft but not 'sinky'. Great breakfast spread too, better than some more expensive ones we've stayed at.

It's a little on the dated side in the room, & I don't 'period' style. But the bed was warm & comfy.
